Just three months after becoming an independent company, Kustom is launching its first major product development – Kustom Mobile Point of Sale (POS). The technology enables merchants to transform their smartphones into card terminals, accepting payments with both physical cards and digital wallets.
This gives Kustom Merchants access to an omnichannel solution, managing both online and in-person transactions. At the same time, it connects the two worlds– from order management to payouts and accounting.
- This democratizes physical commerce. Previously, accepting card payments required specialized hardware. Now, it can be done effortlessly with just a phone, says Jesper Eriksson, chief commercial officer at Kustom.
- Our goal is what we call “unified commerce” – to be the first in the Nordics to synchronize all sales in a single system, whether they happen in-person or online. This also makes it easier to track customers across channels and create a more connected loyalty experience, says Jesper Eriksson.
Kustom sees several areas of use for the new solution. For smaller merchants, it offers a simple way to introduce in-person sales. For larger businesses, it provides both accessibility and resilience.
- The obvious benefit for smaller e-commerce merchants is making it easy to set up a pop-up store or accept payments in a showroom. It's a much easier solution compared to the alternatives available today, where merchants either need to invest in special hardware to process card transactions, or rely on direct bank transfers that require additional administrative work, says Jesper Eriksson.
Kustom is the market leading checkout solution in the Nordics, meaning a significant portion of e-commerce merchants can now seamlessly integrate in-person payments with their existing systems.
- For larger retailers, this solution could enable temporary physical stores wherever their customers are, allow staff to take payments beyond the fixed checkout, and serve as an instant backup if the main checkout system goes down for any reason, Eriksson adds.
Kustom Mobile POS, along with the app, will be rolled out gradually to all Kustom merchants throughout the year. Merchants can also sign up as beta testers starting today
