Kustom appoints new COO from Mastercard
Kustom has appointed David Sucasas Wictorén as Chief Operating Officer. He joins from Mastercard, where he drove business development and the scaling of payments infrastructure across Northern Europe. In his new role, he will have overall operational responsibility, with a focus on scaling Kustom’s infrastructure and delivery model in line with the company’s continued expansion in Europe.
David Sucasas Wictorén brings close to a decade of experience from Mastercard, where he worked on building and scaling payments infrastructure across Europe’s fragmented markets. Most recently, he served as Vice President and Head of Acceptance & Partners for Northern Europe, where he was responsible for large-scale implementations, the launch of new payment technologies and the development of partnerships across the Nordics, Baltics and the Netherlands.
The appointment comes at a time when Kustom is accelerating its European expansion, following the recently completed SEK 367 million funding round and the acquisition of Vipps MobilePay Checkout.
“We are building an operational organisation that matches our growth trajectory. David has experience of scaling payments infrastructure in exactly the kind of markets we are growing in, and a clear understanding of the merchants we exist to serve,” says Kamjar Hajabdolahi, CEO of Kustom.
“I have seen first-hand how fragmented the European markets are. What makes Kustom interesting is that the product is already built for that complexity. I have spent almost my entire career working for large American and German companies, so it will be incredibly exciting to now help build a Swedish-founded company from within, with the position and ambitions that Kustom has,” says David Sucasas Wictorén.
During the pandemic, David led an extensive study of SMEs across the Nordics and Baltics, showing how merchant priorities quickly shifted from a strong focus on cash flow to a need to digitalise and reach customers online – a development that continues to drive demand for effective and easy-to-use checkout solutions that connect online and offline. He also has a close personal understanding of merchants’ day-to-day reality, with several generations of entrepreneurship in his family.
“I come from a family of entrepreneurs. My wife runs an e-commerce business, my mother runs a café, and my grandparents were entrepreneurs. I have seen merchants’ challenges up close my entire life and know what it takes to make a business work. My role at Kustom is to deliver a stable and scalable solution that genuinely makes it easier to run and grow a business,” says David Sucasas Wictorén.
